Wolfgang Munar, Director

Wolfgang Munar, MD, SM, is the Center's Director. He is an Associate Professor in Global Health Systems at the George Washington University-Milken Institute School of Public Health. Dr. Munar is a native Colombian who began his career as a policymaker in his native country before assuming senior roles in organizations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria. His current research portfolio is focused on the evaluation of Routine Immunization Programs in Congo, Niger, Somalia, and Pakistan; the evaluation of the Salud Mesoamerica Initiative; the use of behavioral nudges in the management of childhood anemia in El Salvador, and the effects of supportive supervision on the quality of service delivery in Honduras. 

 

Ana Maria

Ana María del Río-González, Associate Director for Training and Capacity Building

Ana María del Río-González, PhD, MA, MS, is the Center's Associate Director for Training and Capacity Building. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Prevention and Community Health at George Washington University-Milken Institute School of Public Health. Dr. del Río-González's research program focuses on identifying and understanding factors associated with health disparities among minoritized and marginalized groups. She has extensive experience in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research with diverse populations, both in Colombia and in the US—including Latina transgender women, cisgender Latino sexual minority men, Black men, and people with a history of involvement with the criminal justice system (i.e., incarceration, parole, and probation).

 

Donaldson Conserve

Donaldson F. Conserve, Associate Director for Research and Development

Donaldson F. Conserve, Ph.D., MS, is the Center's Associate Director for Research and Development. In addition, he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Prevention and Community Health at George Washington University-Milken Institute School of Public Health. He received his MS and Ph.D. in Biobehavioral Health from Pennsylvania State University and completed his postdoctoral training in the Department of Health Behavior at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Conserve's research focuses on implementing and disseminating evidence-based HIV prevention, care, and treatment interventions for scale-up and population impact. His research has promoted community-based HIV self-testing (HIVST) distribution in his native country of Haiti, Tanzania, and other Sub-Saharan African countries.

 

Samy Galvez De Leon

Samy J. Gálvez de León, Assistant Director

Samy J. Gálvez de Leon, MPH, is the Center's Assistant Director. He obtained a BS in Neuroscience from Brigham Young University, and a master's in Public Health from Columbia University. Born and raised in Guatemala, his work has focused on project management and implementation in international settings. He worked in the Dominican Republic and Guatemala before joining Yale University to work in implementation science in Peru, Ukraine, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, and Malaysia. His work in Honduras was recognized with the Linda K Lorimer Award for his commitment to excellence and innovative thinking. He has worked extensively with critical populations, including people who inject drugs, people in justice system settings, children in street conditions, transgender women, and men who have sex with men.

 

Edlyn Rochon

Edlyn Rochon, Program Manager

Edlyn Rochon, CHES®, is the Center's Program Manager. She is a native of the Washington metropolitan area and is the daughter of Salvadoran immigrants. She obtained a dual BBA in Managerial Sciences and Marketing from Georgia State University. Her passion for helping her community and promoting more Latino and female representation in public health prompted her to obtain her BS in Community Health from the University of Maryland. She has qualitative research experience working with immigrant and migrant farm workers in rural Maryland. She is currently an MPH student of Community-Oriented Primary Care (COPC) in the Department of Prevention and Community Health at George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health.
