Policy Analysis of National Community Health Programs

Salary:  $18-$20 per hour

Summary: The Gill-Lebovic Center for Community Health in the Caribbean and Latin America seeks a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) to support a structured policy review and dashboard update in collaboration with the Community Health Impact Coalition (CHIC). The GRA will help review key community health policy resources, collect and analyze national policy documents, extract and organize data in line with global community health indicators, support stakeholder engagement, and assist with internal documentation and dashboard preparation. This work aids in updating the proCHW Policy Dashboard, a public tool that monitors national commitments to community health worker (CHW) programs.

The GRA will collaborate closely with PhD student Molly Lauria under the supervision of Center Director Dr. Wolfgang Munar. Spanish proficiency is strongly preferred. This is a remote position, and it cannot be used to fulfill practicum requirements.

Position Summary

This position supports a collaborative research project with CHIC to update the proCHW Policy Dashboard. The GRA will work closely with PhD student Molly Lauria and under the supervision of Center Director Dr. Wolfgang Munar. Responsibilities include contributing to a synthesis of key community health policy resources, collecting and reviewing national policy documents, and extracting and analyzing data based on global CHW indicators. The GRA will also help validate findings with stakeholders, organize data into structured formats, contribute to country summaries, and support dashboard updates.

Spanish proficiency is strongly preferred due to the nature of document review and country engagement. With flexible scheduling, the GRA will work remotely but must be available for weekly meetings during regular working hours to discuss progress and coordinate tasks.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

The GRA will assist the research team by conducting a thorough desk review, engaging with stakeholders, and preparing the dashboard.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Work with PhD student Molly Lauria to coordinate and achieve project goals
  • Contribute to a synthesis of key CHW policy resources to inform data collection and analysis, highlighting available information by country and global CHW indicators
  • Collect and analyze national policy documents related to CHW programs
  • Extract and organize data aligned with global CHW indicators
  • Prepare structured datasets and country summaries for dashboard integration
  • Support validation of findings through engagement with key stakeholders
  • Contribute to documentation of methods and internal notes summarizing analysis progress and decisions
  • Collaborate with Center members as needed
  • Maintain routine communication to ensure alignment and timely task completion

Deliverables

  • Synthesis of key CHW policy resources
  • Meeting summaries from stakeholder engagement
  • Spreadsheet with validated data, source documents, and country summaries

Qualifications:

  • Graduate training in public/global health, health/public policy, international development, or a related field
  • Experience with policy analysis and structured document reviews
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Experience with Excel or Google Sheets for organizing data
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Desired Qualifications:

  • Spanish or Portuguese language proficiency
  • Experience conducting qualitative reviews and policy analysis
  • Familiarity with research or practice in the areas of community health and/or primary healthcare systems
  • Experience supporting dashboard development or policy tracking tools
  • Prior work with LMIC health programs or global health partners
