Dr. Wolfgang Munar, Director of the Gill Lebovic Center, presented findings from an ongoing evaluation of performance management strategies in Honduras and El Salvador at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Thursday, February 13.
This work, conducted in collaboration with the Salud Mesoamérica Initiative (SMI), aims to improve healthcare access and quality for the region’s most vulnerable populations. Over the past decade, SMI has demonstrated measurable improvements in maternal, neonatal, and child health, strengthening health systems and closing critical equity gaps across Mesoamerican countries.
The international event brought together 150 participants from a wide range of organizations to review SMI’s progress over the past decade and discuss the sustainability of its efforts to improve reproductive, maternal, and child health services in Mesoamerica. Attendees included the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Carlos Slim Foundation, the governments of Canada and Spain, Ministry of Health representatives and health professionals from SMI countries (Mexico to Panama), regional institutions like Pan American Health Organization, Council of Ministers of Health of Central America, representatives from UN agencies and other global development organizations.
