Gill-Lebovic Center for Community Health in the Caribbean and Latin America

Achieving universal health coverage and health-related sustainable development goals depend on high-performing primary healthcare systems

Located within the Milken Institute School of Public Health at The George Washington University, the Gill-Lebovic Center (GLC) is a pioneering research hub focused on advancing primary health care (PHC ) systems across the Caribbean and Latin America.

We leverage the research, expertise and experience of faculty at the Milken Institute School of Public Health and across the George Washington University.

  • We translate evidence.
  • We foster future generations of researchers.
  • We partner with international agencies and their member states to strengthen primary healthcare systems.

Celebrating the Leadership and Impact of our DrPH Students

PAHO Lancet Commission Report graphic

DrPH student Natalia Houghton, who also serves as PAHO Technical Officer for Primary Health Care Policy, Planning and Evaluation, co-chaired the World Bank–PAHO Lancet Regional Health Americas Commission report, “No time to wait: resilience as a cornerstone for primary health care across Latin America and the Caribbean.”  We also celebrate our DrPH alumna Esther Aranda, DrPH, MPH, MCP, AICP, who contributed as a member of the Commission Secretariat through her work as a consultant with PAHO.

This landmark report delivers a timely message: as governments and communities across Latin America and the Caribbean face persistent health shocks and systemic barriers, resilient PHC-based systems are both essential and achievable.
